Etiology and pathogenesis of chronic constipation in childhood Maşallah Baran1, Kayı Eliaçık2 1İzmir Tepecik Training And Research Hospital, Department Of Pediatric Gastroenterology,hepatology And Nutrition 2İzmir Tepecik Training And Research Hospital, Department Of Pediatrics Constipation is a complex phenomenon involving several factors. Changes in hormonal factors lead to changes in the physiological mechanisms of constipation. Children with constipation occupy an important place among patients attending outpatient clinics. Ninety-five percent of childhood period constipation is functional, and no underlying organic cause is determined in the majority of cases. The origins of functional constipation are still unclear. Intestinal neuropathy or myopathy has been suggested as playing a role in some cases. Sufficient data regarding genetic factors are lacking. There are several factors in etiology and pathogenesis. This review has evaluated these factors. Hormonal faktörlerdeki değişiklikler konstipasyonun fizyolojik mekanizmalarında değişikliğe neden olmaktadır. Konstipasyonlu hastalar çocuk polikliniklerine başvuran hastalar içerisinde önemli bir yer tutmaktadır. Çocukluk döneminde konstipasyonun % 95’i fonksiyonel olup, çoğu hastada altta yatan organik bir neden saptanmaz. Fonksiyonel konstipasyonun neden kaynaklandığı henüz açık değildir. Olguların bazılarında intestinal nöropati veya myopatinin etiyolojide rol aldığı ileri sürülmektedir. Genetik faktörler ile ilgili bilgiler yetersizdir. Etiyoloji ve patogenezde birçok etken söz konusudur. Bu derlemede bu etkenler üzerinde durulmuştur.
