Determination of Fatherhood Role Perception of Fathers with Children Aged 3-6 years and the Affecting Factors Ayberk Asena Telli1, Hava Özkan2 1Ataturk University Institute of Health Sciences, Erzurum 2Atatürk University Faculty of Health Sciences, Erzurum INTRODUCTION: The purpose of this study was to determine the fatherhood role perceptions of fathers with children aged 3-6 years and the affecting factors. METHODS: This descriptive study was conducted between 2013 and December 2014. The population of the study consisted of fathers with children in the age group of 3-6 years in 20 kindergartens located in city center of Giresun and its districts. 8 kindergartens the researchers could reach among these kindergartens were included in the sample. The data of the study were collected from 482 fathers who had 3-6 year-old children in the kindergartens included in the sample and agreed to participate in the study. The data were collected by using the ‘Personal Information Form’ and the ‘Fatherhood Role Perception Scale’. Percentage distributions, mean, t-test, ANOVA, Mann Whitney U, and Kruskal Wallis analyses were used to assess the data. RESULTS: It was determined that fathers’ education, working condition, occupation, income status perception, family type, requesting the child receiving education currently, age of becoming a father for the first time, the number of children and state of receiving information about fatherhood affected the fatherhood role perception. Total mean score obtained by fathers from the Fatherhood Role Perception Scale was determined to be 99.49±11.10. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: It was also determined some socio-demographic characteristics of fathers affected mean scores of the fatherhood role. According to total mean score obtained by fathers from the Fatherhood Role Perception Scale, it was found that the fatherhood role perception was at a good level. YÖNTEM ve GEREÇLER: Araştırma Eylül 2013/Aralık 2014 tarihleri arasında tanımlayıcı tipte yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın evrenini, Giresun ili merkez ve ilçelerine bağlı 20 adet anaokulunda 3-6 yaş grubu çocuğu bulunan babalar oluşturmuştur. Bu anaokullarından araştırmacıların ulaşabileceği 8 anaokulu örnekleme alınmıştır. Araştırmada örnekleme alınan anaokullarında 3-6 yaş çocuğu bulunan ve araştırmaya katılmayı kabul eden 482 babadan veri toplanmıştır. Veriler, ‘Kişisel Bilgi Formu’, ‘Babalık Rolü Algı Ölçeği’ kullanılarak toplanmıştır. Verilerin değerlendirilmesinde; yüzdelik dağılımlar, ortalama, t-testi, ANOVA, Mann Whitney U ve Kruskal Wallis analizi kullanılmıştır. BULGULAR: Babaların; eğitimi, çalışma durumu, mesleği, gelir durumu algısı, aile tipi, şu an eğitim alan çocuğu isteme, ilk kez baba olma yaşı, sahip olduğu çocuk sayısı ve babalığa ilişkin bilgi alma durumlarının babalık rolü algısını etkilediği belirlenmiştir. Babaların, Babalık Rolü Algı Ölçeği’den aldıkları toplam puan ortalamasının 99.49±11.10 olduğu saptanmıştır. TARTIŞMA ve SONUÇ: Babaların bazı sosyodemografik özelliklerinin babalık rolü puan ortalamalarını etkilediği saptanmıştır. Babalık Rolü Algı Ölçeği’den aldıkları toplam puan ortalamasına göre babalık rolü algısının iyi düzeyde olduğu bulunmuştur.
