Abstract

OBJECTIVE

There is a need for an alternative food for babies who have cow’s milk allergy. Although there is usually cross reaction to goat’s milk, it is widely consumed. In this study, we tried to find the frequency of goat’s milk allergy among infants with cow’s milk allergy

METHODS

Thirtyfour children who have diagnosed as cow's milk allergy between 1.1.2010 and 31.12.2010 at Allergy Department were investigated. From those children, 24 of them enrolled to the study group who had positive prck test and provocation test and diagnosed as IgE mediated cow's milk allergy.

RESULTS

Of the 24 babies with cow’s milk allergy, 79% were also sensitive to goat’s milk.

CONCLUSION

It is considered that goat’s milk could be used in patients who are not sensitive to goat’s milk, even though they are a small minority.
