Abstract
INTRODUCTION
This descriptive and cross-sectional study has been done to determine the following themes: time to decide and the prefer reason of the daily surgery of the mothers of the children, determination of their concerns about the surgical procedure, their anxiety levels, and factors that affect all these themes.
METHODS
The research was made between September 2014 and January 2015 in the pediatric surgery department of Erzurum Regional Education and Research Hospital in Erzurum. It was accepted the 284 children and their mothers who came to the daily surgery clinic between the study dates into this study. It was used to Introductory Information Form of the Child Applied Daily Surgery and his/her Family and the State- Trait Anxiety Inventory to collect the data.
RESULTS
It was found that the mean age of the mothers was 29.69 ± 6.10 years and 34.2% of them had graduated from a high school. In the research, it were determined that 89.1% of the mothers were informed of preoperative anesthesia and also 83.0% of the mothers were received this information’s by the doctors. 40.8% of the mothers reported a concern because of the day surgery and 27.1% of this mothers reported that they worry because of the possibility about the child didn’t wake up after the surgery. It was found that mothers total mean score from the state and trait anxiety scale respectively 46.79±5.37 and 45.32±6.17.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION
It was determined that had middle anxiety levels according to the mean scores of them obtained from State-Trait Anxiety scale.
