May goat’s milk be an alternative to cow’s milk? Canan Şule Ünsal, İlker Günay, Hikmet Tekin Nacaroğlu, Demet Can Dr Behcet Uz Children Hospital,ızmir OBJECTIVE: There is a need for an alternative food for babies who have cow’s milk allergy. Although there is usually cross reaction to goat’s milk, it is widely consumed. In this study, we tried to find the frequency of goat’s milk allergy among infants with cow’s milk allergy METHODS: Thirtyfour children who have diagnosed as cow's milk allergy between 1.1.2010 and 31.12.2010 at Allergy Department were investigated. From those children, 24 of them enrolled to the study group who had positive prck test and provocation test and diagnosed as IgE mediated cow's milk allergy. RESULTS: Of the 24 babies with cow’s milk allergy, 79% were also sensitive to goat’s milk. CONCLUSION: It is considered that goat’s milk could be used in patients who are not sensitive to goat’s milk, even though they are a small minority. Çapraz duyarlılık olması nedeniyle önerilmese de keçi sütü yaygın olarak kullanılmaktadır. Bu çalışmada inek sütü alerjisi saptanmış bebeklerde keçi sütü duyarlılığının sıklığı araştırılmıştır. YÖNTEMLER: Alerji Kliniği’nde 1.1.2010-31.12.2010 tarihleri arasında inek sütü alerjisi tanısı alan 34 olgu değerlendirildi. Bu olgular arasından prick test ve provokasyon testi ile IgE aracılı inek sütü alerjisi olduğu kanıtlanmış 24 olgu çalışmaya alındı. BULGULAR: Çalışmaya alınan 24 inek sütü alerjili hastanın %79’unda keçi sütü duyarlılığı olduğu saptanmıştır.
